CATASTROPHE CLAIMS MANAGEMENT

Catastrophe Claims, Coded and Routed From the First One

VCA ClaimsCore gives each claim a Cat Code and Treaty Year, routes the surge by loss location and adjuster workload, and hands it to a CAT claim team, for carriers, TPAs and adjusting firms.

The surge runs on the same platform as every other claim, across every property and casualty line, but not workers' compensation or health benefits claims.

The same claim, in each firm's own VCA account

  1. SENDS PEOPLE TO THE LOSS

    The Adjusting Firm

Each assignment worked in its own account, and each client billed from the time and expense entered on its claims.

  2. ADMINISTERS THE CLAIM

    The TPA

Each client's protocols and rates carried into every claim handled for it, under the authority limit set for each adjuster.

  3. OWNS THE CLAIM

    The Carrier

Every claim coded to its event and treaty year, ready for the data call and the reinsurance conversation.

EACH FIRM'S OWN SEAT

Never a shared file: each firm works the claim from its own seat. What passes between the accounts is agreed in discovery.

An illustration of one catastrophe claim worked from three seats. Which firms take part varies from claim to claim. When a state insurance department issues a data call after a declared catastrophe, the answers come from the dates, codes and dollars recorded on the claim while the work happened.

THE WORK

A declared catastrophe can put weeks of claims on a desk in days. The operations that keep up settled their coding, assignment and billing before the event, so the surge follows rules instead of a whiteboard.

WHAT CLAIMSCORE DOES IN A CATASTROPHE

Coded and Routed, Whatever the Volume

Six parts of catastrophe work, and what ClaimsCore records for each. All of it is in the core platform.

  • Coded to the EventEach claim carries a Cat Code and Treaty Year in its loss details, so the event lives on the claim, not in a spreadsheet beside it.
  • Assignment by RuleClaims route automatically by loss location, adjuster workload or client, to the right team or handler, and still by hand or from a queue when you choose. Turn on automatic acknowledgment, and assigning a claim also emails the client your acknowledgment letter and logs a file note.
  • A CAT Claim TeamSurge assignments go to a CAT claim team, and its claims can be searched as one set.
  • Nothing Buried in the SurgeReminders and calendar entries are generated automatically, and a live status monitor shows where every claim stands against your own stages.
  • Time and Expense by ClientAdjuster time and expense are tracked against each claim by client, and an Un-Invoiced Hours report groups what is still to bill by insurer and claim.
  • Surge Adjusters, Under ControlPermissions go down to individual statuses and actions, adjuster licenses are tracked, and a client company can require multi-factor sign-in.

WHERE TO GO NEXT

Catastrophe Work, by Who Runs It

A catastrophe claim can pass through three organizations: the adjusting firm that sends people to the loss, a TPA that administers it, and the carrier that owns it. On VCA, each firm works the claim from its own seat, in its own account. Each page below starts from one seat in the surge.

Questions About Catastrophe Claims

Can policyholders report catastrophe claims online?

Yes, with InsuredConnect, an add-on to VCA ClaimsCore. Policyholders report the loss from a phone or computer with the loss details, photos and location, and it arrives in ClaimsCore structured, with no rekeying. They can then see the claim's status and who is handling it, upload photos, receipts and forms, and message the claims team.

Does VCA support claims payments for catastrophe claims?

Yes. ClaimsPay, an add-on, issues claims payments from the claim. With or without it, VCA ClaimsCore records every payment against its reserve, with payee, amount, date and status, and a payment can be recorded as pending and converted to an issued payment later.

Which integrations does VCA support for catastrophe claims?

VCA connects with ten named systems today, listed on the integrations page. Service invoices go to Intuit QuickBooks, Sage and Bill.com. XactAnalysis, Symbility, Hover and Encircle handle the assignment, the estimate, measurements and field documentation. Microsoft 365, SendGrid and Amazon S3 run underneath the claim. VCA's API framework connects policy, partner and finance systems.

How long does it take to implement VCA?

Every implementation starts with discovery. VCA maps how your claims actually move (how claims are coded to the event, who gets each assignment and how each client is billed) so those rules are settled before the surge, and ClaimsCore is then configured to that process. Carriers plan on the Carrier License: 12 weeks to 6 months. An Enterprise License deployment runs 8 to 16 weeks, and on a Standard License, configured to your workflows, ClaimsCore goes live in 3 to 4 weeks.
